Daniel 9:2-4
New English Translation

2 in the first year of his reign[a] I, Daniel, came to understand from the sacred books[b] that the number of years for the fulfilling of the desolation of Jerusalem, which had come as the Lord’s[c] message to the prophet Jeremiah, would be 70 years. 3 So I turned my attention[d] to the Lord God[e] to implore him by prayer and requests, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.[f] 4 I prayed to the Lord my God, confessing in this way:

“O Lord,[g] great and awesome God who is faithful to his covenant[h] with those who love him and keep his commandments,

  2. Daniel 9:2 tn Heb “books” or “scrolls.” The word “sacred” has been added to clarify that it refers to the Scriptures.
  3. Daniel 9:2 sn The tetragrammaton (the four Hebrew letters that constitute the divine Name, YHWH) appears 8 times in this chapter and nowhere else in the book of Daniel.
